Explore and experience Wadebridge

Wadebridge - a warm welcome!

Wadebridge CentralĀ

Cycling the Camel Trail

Straddling the banks of the River Camel and ideally situated to explore the built and natural attractions of North Cornwall and Cornwall, Wadebridge is a former market town at the heart of the Camel Trail.

The town has one of the highest ratios of small independent shops specialising in quality local produce, good restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and cafes – it’s said there is nothing you cannot get in Wadebridge!

On the outskirts of town there’s a range or supermarkets  and two fuel stations. The centre of Wadebridge is a short walk from Orchard House where you will find two supermarkets, two chemists, the 2 screen Cinema, a Bike shop, hairdressers, coffee shops as well as two local butchers, two local bakers for pasties and speciality breads and The Vine, an excellent greengrocer - it's real local shopping as it used to be.

In the evening and during the day there are pubs (Molesworth Arms, Swan Hotel, The Ship and the Earl at Egloshayle ) serving meals and drinks. Our local restaurants – especially the Stepping Stone are well worth a visit. Take aways are catered for with three Indian restaurants (The Raj, Wadebridge Tandoori and Spice Guru) The Wai Kui Chinese and The Pizza Shop and Yummies for kebabs and pizzas.

During your stay take the opportunity to explore the Camel Trail – an 18 mile flat, level off road cycling and walking trail going from Padstow, through Wadebridge to Bodmin and Bodmin Moor.

Wadebridge is roughly at the centre of the trail. Heading for Padstow takes you deep into the Camel Estuary, a haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers. Going to Bodmin and the experience is altogether different – inland alongside the river with wooded valleys and fields.

You can walk or cycle the trail – if you haven’t brought bikes they can easily be hired from Bridge Bike Hire (01208 813050) at the start of the trail by the Lidl supermarket. www.bridgebikehire.co.uk.

You can explore from Wadebridge by boot, bike or bus. There are hourly buses to Bodmin and Padstow (No11) as well as Truro and up the coast as far as Bude (both No 95).  There is also a 96 bus which goes up the coast including Port Isaac ending at Launceston.

It’s easy to catch the bus in either direction from West Hill just a short walk from hereat the Trevanson Turn stops. Timetables and information can be found at www.gocornwallbus.co.uk there is also a free app called Go Cornwall bus.

On the riverside there's a range of sporting and outdoor facilities including a childrens play park, tennis courts, bowling green and an active Cricket Club. An excellent leisure centre with swimming pool can be found a short distance away on Gonvena Hill.

During your stay be sure to explore Wadebridge – it’s a friendly town with a surprise around nearly every corner. There is also a very good town Museum if you want to delve into the past.
